1870 Census Nez Perce County, Idaho Part 3 of 7 pages 237-280 This Census was transcribed by Jack Murray and proofread by Alberta Saurdiff for the USGenWeb Archives Census Project, http://www.usgenweb.org/census. Copyright (c) 1999 by Jack Murray. Transcriber's Note: The Idaho Territorial Census Schedules were abstracted from the National Archives Micro-copy T-8, Roll No. 48. There are large number of Chinese in the original Idaho Census who were only working visitors, and due to the similarity of there names, it is doubtful that this information would be of use to the genealogist. They have been omitted from this volume except when they are listed as part of another household or born in the United States. In addition columns 14 thru 20, born within a year, married within a year, can't read, can' write, deaf/dumb/blind/insane, male citizen 21, and male citizen vote denied, are omitted, as they provide little information to the genealogist. Nez Perce county of Idaho Territorial Census in 1870 occupied most of northern Idaho. A large US Army fort was maintained in the area at Fort Lapwai near present day Lewiston Idaho. Many of the heavy supplies for the saw mills, mines and towns were shipped from the East Coast, around Cape Horn, up to Fort Vancouver, and up the Columbia, and Snake rivers. No Railroads were available west of Omaha, so the freight and people came by horse, mule, wagon, barge or by foot. ************************************************************************ USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by any other organization or persons.
