Elk Lick Township, Somerset County, 1870 Post Office Elk Lick, Pennsylvania was enumerated by Michael G. Smith. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mr. Smith used the contraction H K for female occupation; I took this to mean House Keeper and made the transcription using House Keeper instead of HK The majority of the census pages that I used were Illegible in some columns because of what appeared to be Ink bleedthrough from the opposite side of the page. This created a reverse writing situation on the side I was viewing which obliterated any notations in the Attending School, Can't read, Can't write, and Deaf,Dumb,Blind or insane columns. Page 301A Lines 35 - 40. The Enumerator Changed the Dwelling and Family Numbers to read 145 but then corrects his error on Page 301B line 1 using Dwelling and Family Numbers 144 and picking up with 145 on line 4 For this reason, I used Family and Dwelling Number 144* for Page 301A lines 35-40. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Elk Lick Township was transcribed by E. V. "JAN" Garber for the USGenWeb Census Project, http://www.usgenweb.org/census. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
