Holland] Enumerators used booklets with pages ( sheets) A-B, repeating. A pages were stamped with a bold number, after the census was taken. Each page was numbered consecutively by the enumerators ie. 1A 1B, 2A, 2B, etc . In 1920 each Magisterial Districts (3) was split into 2 enumeration Districts (total of 6). Each page is filled in to indicate the state, county, Magisterial District , Supervisor's District #, enumeration District #, page #, name of the enumerator and date of enumeration. The county was in Supervisor's District 10 and enumeration Districts 22-27.Nearly all pages have additional location data added by the enumerator. Clover Hill, district 22, Elsewhere described as "North of Appomattox River and east of road by Hixburg to Prince Edward County line. (excludes Pamplin City town)." Pages 1A- 16A Stamped nos. 1B through 16B, 2 January - 3 February 1920, Dwelling 1-268, Family 1-270 by John A. Bingham. Family nos. go from 199 back to 100 on 11B. there are also an additional number of errors in dwelling and family nos. Page 15B ends on line 83 and is noted as end of district. Page 16A is marked supplement and has only one person listed with a new household # 1 and is dated April 13, 1920. Clover Hill, district 23 Elsewhere described as "South of Appomattox River and west of road (starting at the river[ - - ford] and running by Hixburg through Pamplin ) to Prince Edward County line (includes Pamplin City town, part). " Pages 1A - 20A Stamped nos. 17B through 36B, 2 January - 7 February 1920, Dwelling nos.1-338, Family nos. 1 - 345 and 1 - 27 (Pamplin), by Ryland W. Bristow. Pages 11B and 19B are blank. Page 19A ends on line 23 and is noted as end of district. Page 20A is marked supplement and list 13 people in two additional households and is dated 16 April 1920. The enumeration of the general district stops on page 11A (noted at bottom "continued on 13A"), (11B is a blank ) picks up Pamplin City, pages 12A and 12B, (Dwelling and Family nos. 1 - 27) and then returns to the general district picking up again on page 13A, (noted as continued from 11A). This enumeration has a number of unreadable names. Southside district 24, Elsewhere described as " East of line commencing at Stonewall District line on road south of Oakville, along road by F. W. McKinney's and by court house, crossing railroad at depot, and on the Red House road to mountain road (at schoolhouse) and with latter road by Hunter's old place to Falling river and down same to Spring Mills". Pages 1A - 16A Stamped nos. 37B through 52B, , 2 January - 4 February 1920, Dwellings nos. 1 - 312, Family nos. 1-315 by Hutson H. Harvey. The farm numbering has many errors. The village of Appomattox is not separate but is partially listed on 10A- 16A of this district and partially listed in district 25. Page16A ends on line 13 and is marked as end of district. South Side, district 25 Elsewhere described as " West of line commencing at Stonewall District line on road south of Oakville, along road by F.W. McKinney's and by court house, crossing railroad at depot, and on the Red House road to mountain road (at schoolhouse) and with latter road by Hunter's old place to Falling river and down same to Spring Mills". Pages 1A - 15A Stamped nos. 53B through 67B, 2 January - 19 February, Dwelling nos. 1-282, Family nos. 1-288 on page 15A , however nos. 289 and 290 were added at the bottom of page 5B on February 19, 1920. By Charles R. Caldwell . The enumeration of the village of Appomattox begins on page 3A and continues through page 5A. Part of the village is also enumerated in district 24. Page 15A ends on line 28; even though not marked as such, this appears to be the end of the district. Stonewall, district 26 The description of the district lines that I secured makes no sense. It appears from the road names that district 26 was on the East side of current state road 26 (Appomattox to Bent Creek). Pages 1A - 13A, stamped nos. 68B through 80B, 1 March - 15 March 1920, Dwellings nos. 1-116, family nos. 1-131 by John A. Bingham. Dwelling nos. after page 6A are incorrect. Family numbering gets out of line on page 11B There are actually some 241 households enumerated. Page13A ends on line 31 and is marked as end of district. Stonewall, district 27 The description of the district lines that I secured makes no sense. It appears from the road names that district 27 was on the West side of current state road 26 (Appomattox to Bent Creek) Pages 1A - 20B, stamped nos. 81B through 101A, 2 January - 11March 1920 by Alfred F. Rector. Dwelling 1-67 and family 1-68 on pages 1A through 4B and Dwelling and family nos. 1 - 241, Pages 5A through 18A. Sheet 18B is blank; Pages 19A & B contain 17 additional unnumbered family units and are dated March 10, 1920. Pages 20A & B contain another 19 additional unnumbered family units and are dated March 11, 1920. This enumeration is done in the poorest handwriting I have encountered to date. I apologize for what I am sure are many errors in my transcription.
