Centrans Instructions and Help
Using CenTrans

CenTrans was written by Bill Husler for use in the USGenWeb Archives Census Transcription Project. It is a filemaker program and is available for both Macintosh and Windows.

CenTrans streamlines the transcription process while providing a standardised file format for archiving and distribution over the internet. It maintains two files for each Census year. One file contains each of the page headers and the other contains all the individual lines. In this way, it is possible to review and make changes to an entire page in context.

CenTrans makes it easy to combine files and produce extracts. You can import from CART or from Templates. You can export to DBF or TEXT.

CenTrans is a brand new program that is only now nearing completion and has not been fully tested.

This is the first public beta (be careful to backup your data often).
